The 2008 and Summerfolk Music and Crafts fair was again a great success and Northridge is proud to have been a sponsor of this significant regional event. Our hats are off to the event organizers, fellow sponsors and the many, many volunteers that make this festival the truly great event it is.

Over the past year or so we have been working hard to make a number of improvements to the look and feel of the Marwin Building at the corner of 2nd Ave East and 9th street in Owen Sound. The bulk of our efforts have been applied to improving the building facade, taking care to maintain many of the buildings unique features. A part of these renovation efforts included considerable updates to a newly revived retail space on main street, now home to the Vertical Boardshop.

Our efforts also yielded some interesting surprises, such as the stained/leaded glass window/transoms in two units on the buildings south side.

The final steps in the exterior renovation process are in the works at present, including soda washing and repainting along the buildings 9th Street exposure.
[[Show as slideshow]]

132 9th Street East, Owen Sound, the former LePan Building is now commonly referred to as the “Earl Georgas Building”. This is in reference to the long-time operation of the “Earl Georgas Skis and Snowboards.

The original building was over 140 years old. Constructed in the 1860’s it was one of the earliest buildings in Owen Sound, and was constructed entirely from wood rather that stone or brick as the need at the time was for a building to be operational as quickly as possible.

As Owen Sound developed, this building remained. It was subject to several modifications and alterations over the years and changed hands several times. The building was even relocated from its original site to the location it sits on today.

The property was purchased by Northridge Property Management Inc in 2005 from Earl Georgas. Having sat vacant for several years the Building was in an advanced state of disrepair and was condemned for demolition by the City of Owen Sound. Northridge Property Management demolished the building in 2007. In its place a replica of the building was constructed to pay respect to the historical significance of the original building. Based on the earliest original photographs the building was reconstructed using modern materials to resemble the original structure.

The floor plate is approximately 1,700 sq ft and is available for lease. Complete lease details will be online shortly. In the meantime please contact one of our property managers to arrange a viewing.

More than one million people from around the globe have hiked the world-famous Bruce Trail which passes through Owen Sound as it winds its way from Queenston to Tobermory along 740 kilometres of the Niagara Escarpment. The Bruce Trail Association strives to maintain and preserve the trail which was built to give people a place to walk and enjoy the simple pleasures of nature. You will find the trail easily accessed from several points in and around the city. A particularly pleasant, yet challenging, hike travels from Harrison Park to Inglis Falls Conservation Area . From Inglis Falls, the route continues along the Bruce Trail to the Pottawatomi Conservation Area to see Jones Falls. Niagara Escarpment : The Niagara Escarpment provides unique wildlife habitat: home to 100 species of trees; 320 species of birds, some indigenous to the escarpment alone; and 50 of the 70 species of fern known to exist in Ontario. Because of the escarpment, "northern Grey County is a patchwork quilt landscape. Rolling, glacial sculpted farmlands are interspersed with patches of deciduous forest, meandering rivers and creek valleys lined in dark green cedar. The rural countryside is dotted with farming homesteads not greatly changed in over a century."

In addition, there is a fully serviced campground, licensed restaurant, snack bar, picnic areas, tennis courts, swimming pools, paddle boats, canoeing, mini-golf, fishing and a large bird sanctuary.
